ENABLING PUBLIC HEALTH SUPPLY CHAIN TRANSFORMATION IN KENYA SINCE 2018
LEADING EXAMPLES OF ARC’S WORK AND OUTCOMES IN KENYA
PLACEMENT OF AN ENABLER IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH
ARC supports the Ministry of Health through strengthening the Health Products and Technologies Division. ARC’s work in Kenya was made possible by placing an Enabler in the Ministry of Health to provide technical input to ongoing activities and priorities of the Ministry of Health.
DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF KENYA’S NATIONAL SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGY
ARC supported the implementation of the Health Products and Technologies Division’s strategic objectives by developing a clear national supply chain costing strategy to aid planning for funding streams. ARC’s work supported making the final costed implementation plan report for the National Supply Chain Strategy available, and the implementation of healthcare strategies with effective costing analysis was advanced. ARC also leveraged its existing engagement with a key private sector partner to broker the necessary expertise to support the Ministry of Health with the National Supply Chain Strategy implementation planning.
LEVERAGING PRIVATE SECTOR ENGAGEMENT TO SUPPORT MEDICINE AVAILABILITY
ARC created a collaborative platform where the government could leverage the strengths and expertise of the private sector to support its efforts to address logistics-related gaps within the supply chain. ARC’s support increased private sector understanding of national supply chain strategy, strengthened the collaborative process between the government and the private sector, increased government capacity through mentorship and training opportunities and supported the development of a Private Sector Engagement Framework towards enhancing collaborations in HIV differentiated service delivery.
STRENGTHENING VISIBILITY ACROSS THE PUBLIC HEALTH SUPPLY CHAIN
ARC supported the Ministry of Health’s aim to continually improve access to medicines by offering insights into stock levels and demand for essential healthcare supplies. The Ministry of Health approached ARC to develop a dashboard that would allow it to have end-to-end visibility of healthcare products down to the facility level. ARC helped create a series of sample dashboards that easily enable the Ministry of Health to monitor inventory levels across the value chain.
SUCCESSFUL ROLLOUT OF LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE CAPACITY BUILDING COURSE
ARC collaborated with Strathmore Business School and HELP Logistics to deliver leadership, governance and management training to the 10 County Pharmacists in charge of the supply chain in their respective counties.
